System of Rocker Bogie Suspension

Shuchii Singh

Abstract

The main purpose of the rocker bogie mechanism is to help the Mars rovers navigate the challenging terrain while staying stable. It is NASA's preferred mechanism for rovers and spacecraft. It has two arms, each of which has a wheel attached. Through a movable joint, both arms are connected. This makes it easier to have a suspension-based system that evenly distributes the vehicle's weight, even over uneven and bumpy terrain. The bogie can easily navigate over rocks and pebbles thanks to its spring-free suspension-based differential drive system. For a rover's sensors and cameras to function properly and improve its life span, they must be secured. Wear occurs more quickly when there are more jerks and vibrations.
