Self- Compacting Concrete: Properties, Application and Recent Developments
Abstract
Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) is a modern type of concrete that can flow and compact by itself without vibration. It was developed to solve problems faced in traditional concrete, especially in areas with heavy reinforcement or complex shapes. SCC provides many advantages such as better strength, smooth surface finish, higher durability, and reduced labour and noise during construction. The use of nanotechnology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) has further improved SCC by enhancing its microstructure, increasing strength, and helping predict its properties more accurately. This paper discusses the materials, mix design, and applications of SCC in major Indian projects like the Delhi Metro and Kaiga Nuclear Power Plant. With its excellent performance and sustainability, SCC is becoming one of the most important materials for future smart and efficient construction.
