Abstract

Astroviruses belong to the Astroviridae family of single-stranded RNA viruses that are not enclosed.1–3. Acute gastroenteritis, especially in young children, is frequently caused by human astrovirus infection. Astrovirus infections typically resolve on their own with supportive care. Whatever it may be, very young children, immunocompromised individuals, and older adults are at an enhanced risk of severe disease.4,5 This article explains about the etiology, diagnosis, and treatment of astrovirus infection, along with a focus on astrovirus as a cause of gastroenteritis in children.
