Transducers in Mechanical Systems

Raju P., Jagruti P.

Abstract

Transducers are critical components in modern mechanical systems, enabling the conversion of physical quantities into electrical signals for monitoring, control, and automation. This research investigates the application of various types of transducers—including strain gauges, LVDTs, piezoelectric sensors, and thermocouples—in mechanical engineering fields such as structural analysis, fluid dynamics, and machine health monitoring. Experimental evaluation and literature synthesis reveal how these sensors enhance accuracy, reliability, and real-time diagnostics in mechanical systems. Advanced transducer integration with data acquisition and microcontroller-based systems further expands their utility in smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0 environments. The study concludes that transducers play a vital role in mechanical innovations and calls for continued research into sensor miniaturization and AI-based signal interpretation.
