Whispers in the Dark: The Ongoing Battle Against Nipah Virus
Abstract
Nipah Virus: A Twenty-Year Odyssey of Emergence and Persistence. Since its devastating debut in Malaysia's pig farms two decades ago, Nipah virus (NiV) continues to haunt Bangladesh and India, posing significant threats to human and animal health. With Pteropus bats as its elusive reservoir hosts, NiV outbreaks persist, raising concerns of potential expansion to new regions. Despite advancements in diagnostics and supportive care, there remains no licensed vaccine or specific treatment for NiV. Vigilance, surveillance, and international collaboration are paramount in navigating the shadowy realms of NiV and mitigating its impact on global health security.
