

Development of a Multifunctional Herbal Gel for Chronic Acne Using Turmeric Oil and Synergistic Botanicals
Abstract
Chronic acne is a long-lasting condition characterized by ongoing inflammation and microbial imbalance, necessitating the development of new treatment options that are both effective and gentle on the skin. This research investigates the formulation and evaluation of a natural topical gel designed to tackle these challenges. The gel combines 3% turmeric oil, 2% EGCG green tea extract, 1.5% sea buckthorn oil, 5% witch hazel extract, 1% vitamin E oil, and a guar gum-based hydrogel. These plant-derived components were selected for their synergistic effects: curcuminoids in turmeric oil offer antibacterial properties, EGCG in green tea regulates sebum production, omega fatty acids in sea buckthorn oil support skin barrier repair, and witch hazel’s tannins help tighten pores. This formulation aims to provide a holistic solution for acne by addressing key factors such as inflammation, bacterial growth, and impaired skin barrier function. The physicochemical analysis of the gel revealed optimal viscosity (14,500 cP), pH (5.7 ± 0.2), and spreadability (6.5 cm/30 sec), indicating good stability and ease of use. The findings suggest that this natural gel could serve as an effective and mild alternative to traditional acne treatments, potentially offering a promising option for managing chronic acne with fewer side effects. Further clinical studies are needed to confirm its therapeutic effectiveness in real-world settings.
