Assessment of Water Supply Distribution in Ogbomoso North and South Local Government, Ogbomoso, Oyo State

Abstract


The study assesses the performance, effectiveness and efficiency of water supply distribution schemes in Ogbomoso North and South Local government area, Oyo State, Nigeria. Data were collected through personal interview and observation from Water Corporation in Ogbomoso. Two hundred (200) structured questionnaires were distributed among household within the study area. Social economic characteristic of respondents were evaluated. The major sources of water supply in the area, frequency of water supply by Water Corporation and its duration were determined from the data. Over 65% of the respondent had lived for over five years in the area, 99.5% of respondent are educated and 44.5% are male. The major source of water in the area are well and borehole which account for 50.5 and 31%, respectively. The frequency of water supply in the area varies from 1-30 days. The water supply by Corporation varied between 1-6hrs between 5am to 7pm.The water supply distribution scheme could not meet the demand of the population in the area. The water board should look into alternative source of power and maintain existing system for optimal operation.
