Integrating GPS and GIS Data with Distribution of Arsenic Contamination and Socio-economic Aspect of Arsenic: A Study of Mugrapara Union, Narayanganj, Bangladesh

Abstract


Ground water resources are vulnerable for Arsenic contamination & worldwide millions of people are also vulnerable for this reason also especially densely populated Southeast Asia.Arsenic contamination is a major issue of potable water and has recently been most environmental health management issue especially in the plain region, where population density is very high. GIS was used in this study for visualizing distribution of arsenic concentration. The primary objective of this research is to identify the grid and gratitude of Arsenic contaminated area of Mugrapara Union, Narayanganj by using GPS. This research highlighted the role of GPS mapping in arsenic related information in the North East part of Dhaka city the capital of Bangladesh. GIS helps to understand the absolutes location of an Arsenic affected area properly. This research describes briefly the state of present knowledge of the social and socio-economic aspects of arsenic contamination of groundwater used for domestic water supply. Arsenic related information has been collected to find out socio economic aspect of arsenic by questionnaire survey from house hold level and overall Mugrapara Union. Policy makers can take help of different GIS approach on the purpose of ground water utilization and can take various important decisions on the basis of these approaches for water supply related issues like drinking water supply to household or industrial area. According to the result of current analysis it is essential steps for groundwater protection and prevention for future generations.
