Comparative Study of Cardiovascular Parameters in Menopausal and Non-Menopausal Adult Female (Heart Rate, Body Mass Index (Bmi), Oxygen Saturation, Diastole Pressure, Systolic Pressure)

Abstract


Women risk of developing cardiovascular diseases increases after menopause, suggesting a potential link between menopause and cardiovascular parameters. The aim of this study was to determine the cardiovascular parameters in menopausal and non-menopausal adult female. This study was a cross-sectional design, which allows for the comparison of cardiovascular parameters in menopausal and non-menopausal adult females. The study involved twenty (20) consenting adult female participants, including 10 menopausal women and 10 non-menopausal women, recruited from Ekpoma metropolitan, Edo State Nigeria. Demographic information, medical history, and lifestyle habits was collected from each participant using a self-reported questionnaire. Pulse oximeter was used to measure the oxygen saturation, digital sphygmomanometer was used to measure the heart rate, systolic and diastolic pressure and stadiometer was used to measure the weight and the height for the BMI. The results obtained from the current study shows that the mean values of Heart rate in the non-menopausal and menopausal adult female groups were 82.80±3.637 and 71.90±3.637, the mean values of Systolic pressure in the non-menopausal and menopausal adult female groups were 118.5±7.969 and 150.5±7.969 and the mean values of Diastolic pressure in the non-menopausal and menopausal adult female groups were 74.0±6.792 and 89.20±6.792 respectively. Additionally, the findings showed that the mean heart rate values differed statistically significantly at the 95% confidence level (p <0.05). Systolic and diastolic pressure between menopausal and non-menopausal adult female study groups.The mean values of Body mass index in the non-menopausal and menopausal adult female groups were 24.10±2.237 and 27.20±2.237 and the mean values of Oxygen saturation level in the non-menopausal and menopausal adult female groups were 94.10±1.416 and 96.80±1.416 respectively. Furthermore, a comparative analysis of the results revealed that there was no statistically significant difference at 95% confidence level (p <0.05) in the mean values of oxygen saturation and BMI between menopausal and non-menopausal adult female study groups. This indicates that there is no relationship between menopause and oxygen saturation and BMI but there is a link between systolic, diastolic pressure, heart rate and menopausal women.
